Position Summary

Leads team of individuals responsible for short-term electric system operations and resource portfolio optimization, including electric load forecasting, variable energy resource forecasting, generation production modeling, fuel planning and nominations, electric market submittal, outage planning, dispatch decisions, and operational strategies. Must hire, retain and lead competitively minded team to reduce overall operating costs and expand business opportunities. Accountable for all electric operations, related regulatory compliance, and reporting.

Essential Responsibilities

Directs the daily activities of the trading analysts and system dispatchers to efficiently and reliably operate portfolio of power purchase agreement resources, owned generation, load management programs, and short-term purchase and sales activity to minimize customer costs. Manage highly effective team and oversee tools and decisions required for the optimization all generation and other portfolio resources, daily fuel nominations, short-term organized market activities such as the submission of demand bids, generation offers, and market monitoring validations, as well as the accuracy of pricing, costing inputs, and verification of cost calculator. Expert in all commercial aspects of Xcel electric operations.Responsible for forward electric planning (up to two years out) and the design, use and advancement of software and systems used to improve system operations. Able to conceive, coordinate and articulate results of strategies and complex analytical studies to senior leadership. Works directly with Energy Supply, Purchase Power, and Resource Planning to evaluate new and optimize existing resources. Responsible for evaluating posted transmission information to help predict ISO congestion pricing and determining ancillary service costs and offer strategies. Responsible for monitoring transmission usage, valuing firm transmission rights and supporting the development of auction bids for various energy products that maximize Xcel's wholesale revenues and minimize purchase costs.Responsible for the after-the-fact review and reporting on previous electric operations. Will prepare testimony and supporting technical regulatory data requests. Benchmarks models as appropriate to assure analysis and prediction integrity.Works closely with IT and vendors to ensure optimal design and performance of systems. Recommends changes to existing technology and associated practices to streamline the front office processes. Researches energy market trends. Develops recommended operating strategies based on technical and fundamental market analysis. Responsible for compliance with state, federal and other agency requirements related to commercial electric operations.Minimum Requirements7 years of experience in electric system planning, trading operations, or electric trading.Minimum of two years of experience in electric trading or electric trading operations.Preference given to candidates with prior supervisory experience.Bachelor degree in business, applied science, engineering, math, statistics, economics, or finance required. The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $158,900.00 to $225,166.66 per year
