About the Job

Position Overview

This position is fully funded by sponsored funds, and is a short-term position that will provide training to Minnesota social workers.

This position is an open hire for trainers to support statewide training of child welfare professionals. Previously part of Department of Human Services' Child Welfare Training System (MCWTS), community trainers/writers are now being hired as Temp Casual employees of the University of Minnesota, Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW). Through partnership, DHS and the CASCW will provide the development and implementation of training. The partnership, called The Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy, will continue to provide high quality, culturally responsive, competency-based training to county and tribal child welfare professionals. Trainers and curriculum writers are hired to address core values and best practice models in alignment with the Minnesota Child Welfare framework for competent child welfare practice. Curricula topics are identified through the Academy. Trainers are hired to train curriculum in alignment with the Minnesota Child Welfare framework for competent child welfare practice. Trainers hired are expected to deliver content as outlined in the specified curriculum. Training sessions will be delivered based on county and tribal training needs.

Trainer Job Responsibilities

Classroom Training: (75%)

  • Provide interactive training to child welfare professionals
  • Interact with learners to enhance growth and development

Classroom Preparation: (20%)

  • Review and prepare curriculum content for training days
  • Review any student prerequisite or course assignments
  • Prepare training rooms as necessary for training (room set up, computer/projector set up, etc.)

Training of Trainers/Feedback/Coaching: (5%)

  • Work with the Academy in Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions
  • Actively participate in feedback and coaching sessions with Collaborative staff
  • Actively incorporate recommendations and feedback from TOTs and coaching sessions

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MSW or related degree and three or more years of training experience
  • Knowledge, skills and ability to integrate culture and diversity into curriculum development and/or classroom facilitation
  • Ability to effectively engage the various learning styles of classroom participants.
  • Skill in receiving and incorporating feedback and coaching
  • Strong and timely communication skills
  • Strong skill in collaboration
  • Travel state-wide

Preferred Qualifications

  • Classroom training of teaching
  • Extensive knowledge of child welfare practice in Minnesota
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and current classroom technology

MN Child Welfare Academy Overview:

The Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) was established in 1992 with federal Title IV-E funding and a grant from the Bush Foundation. The Center brings the University of Minnesota together with county, tribal, state and community social services in a partnership dedicated to improving the lives of children and families involved with public child welfare. Substantial funding for the Center continues to come from federal Title IV-E funds and support from the University of Minnesota, the College of Education and Human Development and the School of Social Work. CASCW fulfills its mission by focusing its efforts around three primary areas: Professional Education, Outreach, and Research & Evaluation.

Founded in 1917, the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is the oldest social work program in a public land-grant university.
