Description
The School of Life Sciences (SOLS) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible Teaching Assistant Professor (i.e., instructional-track Assistant Professor) position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024. The position is 80% teaching and 20% service. Subsequent academic year renewals (Aug. 16 to May 15) are common, yet contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit. Supplementary summer teaching is often available, if desired. Applicants should have a broad grasp of immunology and cell biology as well as experience in college or university-level teaching and student mentoring. The successful candidate will have a broad grasp of biological sciences, enabling broad instructional contributions that promote student success and intellectual engagement within the unit. Ideally, applicants will also have experience in immunology and/or cell biology laboratory research. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in college-level immunology and cell biology courses, including associated instructional lab courses, which are taught on campus or online. Responsibilities will also include supervising graduate teaching assistants, undergraduate teaching/learning assistants, and updating/developing course materials with other faculty. The successful candidate will also provide service within the school, college, and university in capacities appropriate for the position and will interact and engage broadly with faculty and staff within SOLS. Ideally, we have a goal of hiring instructional faculty who can advance instructional quality in our campus and online courses and degree programs and who can work in partnership to form discipline-specific faculty instructional teams.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:

A PhD degree in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, molecular/cellular biology, or closely related field, at the time of appointment.
Four (4) or more years of laboratory research in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, molecular/cellular biology, or closely related field.
Demonstrated experience [three (3) years] teaching college-level immunology, cell biology, molecular/cellular biology, or related courses including lecture and lab in a traditional classroom.
Demonstrated experience implementing evidence-based practices in college-level pedagogy and assessment to support diverse learners and advance higher-order critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the ASU Charter.
Desired qualifications:

Experience creating course curriculum and teaching via alternative delivery modalities, such as hybrid or online.
Experience in using technology to supplement and improve pedagogy.
Demonstrated commitment to serving and understanding the particular needs of online students.
Demonstrated success in meeting the needs of underrepresented student populations or reaching out to diverse communities.
Experience supervising and mentoring graduate teaching assistants, undergraduate teaching/learning assistants, and instructional lab coordinators
Evidence of collaborative activities with other faculty and staff.
Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities (for example, postdoctoral teaching certificate programs, authoring educational and scientific publications, presenting at conferences, etc.).
