Job Summary:

The Addiction Counselor utilizes critical thinking skills in the counseling process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Provision of patient care is based on care management, quality/resource, stewardship, patient advocacy/customer service and role modeling. The Counselor is accountable for professional practice of counseling and participation in the interdisciplinary care delivery model.

Key Position Details:

  • M-F 8am-4:30pm
  • No Weekends
  • Position is Primarily Assessments and Staff Coverage for Groups and Individuals
  • Benefit and retention bonus eligible

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

  • Patient/Family Assessment:
    • Screen for admission to addiction services.
    • Participates in comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment of patient.
    • Assesses family dynamics and implications for successful treatment.
    • Addresses educational needs of patients and families and assigns appropriate work.
  • Facilitate group, individual and family therapy.
  • Treatment Planning:
    • Referrals to internal and external services.
    • Promoting family involvement in treatment.
    • Provide appropriate education to patient and family.
    • Discharge planning.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Sciences required and
  • 2 to 5 years Adolescent Only: in treatment program working with adolescents. required
  • 0 to 2 years At time of hire must sign a statement attesting to at least 2 years of freedom from a chemical use problem, immediately preceding their hire required
  • 0 to 2 years experience in family dynamics and treatment issues with family required
  • 0 to 2 years Adolescent Only: 30 hours of adolescent development training required
  • 2 to 5 years experience in a treatment program preferred
  • Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor - MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy required Upon Hire
  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required within 30 Days
