About this role

Social Performance helps Newmont achieve its purpose of creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining, enabling the mining business to be successful while achieving broad community support. The Senior Manager for Social Performance coordinates the implementation and management of systematic social performance and community relations programs that are executed at the Business Unit (BU) and site level. The role works alongside BU and site Sustainability resources on execution and ongoing management and monitoring, including field-based social due diligence.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:


• Working to progress the social performance strategy and performance standards and implement specific programs through coordinated efforts with BU leaders and site-based resources.

• Support delivery of Newmont's BU and site social performance management strategies and approaches for integrating social standards, guidelines, systems, processes, and tools to support operating sites.

• Coordinating implementation of programs for standards adherence in key areas of social performance, including cultural heritage, social investment and community development, local content, stakeholder engagement, and impact assessment.

• Supporting an evidence-based monitoring and evaluation program for community relationships and stakeholder engagement. Monitor and report on performance metrics, KPIs, and targets across operations and BUs.

• Coach social performance and other relevant personnel at BU / sites to ensure competency and skill development, and successful identification, and execution of site-specific risk management requirements.

• Maintaining and improving the social performance component of Newmont's management system.

• Providing oversight of social performance global reporting requirements, including review and verification of regional and site data submissions.

• Managing social performance content on the company intranet.

• Participating in cross-functional working groups and communities of practice for best practice and knowledge sharing.

Here is what we would need to see from you

Knowledge:

  • University degree in international relations, political science or social science. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of mining operations and associated land access requirements
  • Knowledge of human rights risks and due diligence processes
  • Knowledge of mine operations in different cultural and geographical settings.
  • Experience managing community relations maintaining social acceptance for natural resource development.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully negotiating with and influencing others to achieve desired outcomes to maximize compliance performance and reduce risk.
  • Experienced in effectively building relationships and collaborating with regulators, government agencies, and other external stakeholders to produce desired changes and positive outcomes for the business.
  • Knowledge of global and relevant regional, national and local context related to social acceptance and community relations.
  • Experience with IFC Performance Standards or similar global framework.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in project management, establishing, strengthening and maintaining relationships within the company.
  • Deep experience in community engagement and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes with local communities.
  • Advanced proficiency in completing broad tasks that impact other parts of the business and managing time constraints, competing priorities and tradeoffs.
  • Competent commercial skills: budgets, forecasting, planning, analysis, reporting and communicating results.
  • Advanced proficiency in establishing, strengthening and maintaining relationships with formal and informal community leaders and communities.
  • Demonstrate social sensitivity, commitment and compliance with Newmont's Code of Conduct and Policies, maintaining socially- and ethically- responsible behavior as a company representative in multiple nations.
Working conditions and location
  • Domestic and international travel required.
  • Preferably located in Denver.
  • Proficiency in English is a must and Spanish is highly desired

The salary range offered for this role is USD $120, ,000. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
