The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California (USC Norris) was founded in 1971 and has been continuously funded as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1973. USC Norris has a rich tradition of collaborative research and serves as a major regional and national resource for cancer research, prevention, treatment and education.

The Molecular Genomics Core is looking for a highly motivated Lab Technician I to fill an immediate need within our Next Generation Sequencing technology group. This person will be expected to understand and follow protocols to process samples to produce high-quality sample processing for downstream Genomics applications and equipment. The candidate will be detail oriented, responsible and possess exceptional organizational and analytical skills.

Job Accountabilities:

This position will:

perform day-to-day activities as part of the high capacity, high throughput, Next Generation sequencing team including, but not limited to, DNA/RNA extraction and quality control.

develop proficiency with Agilent BioAnalyzer and Tapestation, automated nucleic extraction platforms and other nucleic acid QC measurements

maintain, manage and communicate detailed work, project and billing logs;

operate and monitor equipment to assure the optimal performance and maintenance of all related laboratory equipment; and

be able to assist in data analysis, troubleshoot issues and communicate technical information to end-users.

Preferred Field of Expertise: Background in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or related field strongly preferred. Experience in Illumina Next-Generation Sequencing applications and hardware a strong plus. A working knowledge of laboratory equipment, project management and research protocols is required.

The hourly rate range for this position is $ $22.50.
