Position Summary:
The Utility Maintenance Technician I is responsible for executing maintenance, repair, and installation tasks related to the public Gas and Water Distribution System. This position is crucial during emergencies or natural disasters and operates on a standard forty-hour work week. As a Safety Sensitive role, it is subject to random drug testing in accordance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Utility Maintenance Technician I, your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Conducting maintenance and repair tasks for the gas and water distribution systems.
- Monitoring and recording usage data from gas and water meters.
- Utilizing equipment and visual inspections to identify gas and water leaks.
- Assisting in the installation of wet taps on gas and water lines.
- Entering and classifying data into computer systems.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 months of experience in Public Utility.
- Completion of all training requirements as outlined in the Operations & Maintenance Plan.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Proficiency in basic mathematical operations.
- Ability to follow instructions in various formats.
- Capability to perform physical labor as required.
- Excellent public relations skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to:
- Engage in physical activities including lifting up to 80 pounds.
- Work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to chemicals.
- Perform tasks that require manual dexterity and coordination.
Work Environment:
The work environment may include:
- Exposure to loud noise levels.
- Working at heights and in precarious positions.
- Frequent interaction with moving mechanical parts.
