Our Columbus, OH office is currently looking for a Microbiologist who will be part of our Sterilization Technology team. You will perform sterilization validation for new and existing products utilizing vaporized hydrogen peroxide and retort processing/canning sterilization methods. Support R&D and manufacturing for sterilization validation of new products and changes to existing products.

Main Responsibilities

  • Performs sterilization validation for new and/or existing aseptic manufacturing equipment utilizing vaporized hydrogen peroxide as a sterilant and annual revalidations.
  • Conduct sterilization qualifications for new products and/or changes to existing products and new packages and/or existing packages.
  • Manage bacterial spore stock suspensions for inoculating packaging materials for validations and annual revalidations.
  • Maintain validation documentations including writing new validation protocols.
  • Assist with updating internal Standard Operating Procedures and training documents.
  • Supporting other teams members when validating retort and aseptic equipment.
  • Willingness to learn how to develop a thermal process for both aseptic and retort processes.

Key Skills to Succeed

  • Possess knowledge and recent practice of aseptic technique and ability to maintain bacterial spore crop with known concentrations for inoculating packaging materials.
  • Possess knowledge and recent practice of:
    • Streak plating to isolate pure bacterial cultures.
    • Capable of diluting bacterial cultures and enumerating for accurate concentration for inoculation.
    • Gram staining and ability to classify microorganisms based on gram stain properties.
    • Ability to classify microorganisms based on bacteria morphology.
  • Ability to prepare the necessary laboratory equipment for sterilization in an autoclave including microbial media, lab utensils, test tubes, etc.
  • Knowledge of Microbiological laboratory methodology and application.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate and influence across the organization.
  • Display proficiency in standard computer applications. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Travel will be roughly 25% but may be higher or lower depending on projects.

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required, preferrable in Microbiology or Food Science
  • 2-5 years of professional experience
  • Local candidates in the Columbus metro area
