JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Surgical Services Technologist plays a vital role in the operating room by assisting in the safe transportation of patients to and from surgical departments. This position involves acting as a first assistant when necessary, within the defined scope of practice and competencies. The technologist is responsible for reviewing preference cards and selecting the appropriate supplies and equipment for assigned surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring accountability for supplies, equipment, and environmental support in a cost-effective manner.
  • Draping all equipment in a sterile manner.
  • Identifying specimens for processing by the circulating nurse.
  • Counting instruments, sharps, and sponges before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization and appropriately removing soiled items.
  • Recognizing and reporting any situations that may compromise patient safety.
  • Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Restocking Operating Room supply carts as necessary.
  • Reporting issues related to kits, equipment, or supplies.
  • Contributing to the cleanliness and organization of the unit.
  • Facilitating efficient turnover times by prioritizing activities related to equipment and instrumentation for upcoming cases.
  • Ensuring patient comfort and safety measures are upheld.
  • Assisting the surgeon during procedures with a high level of efficiency, anticipating needs throughout the case.
  • Participating in daily departmental maintenance, including work assignments, restocking, and equipment upkeep.
  • Utilizing non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner.
  • Training others on the proper use of instruments and equipment.
  • Following established procedures for decontaminating, sterilizing, and disinfecting instruments and equipment.
  • Correctly assembling and packaging items for sterilization.
  • Preparing items in an organized and timely fashion.
  • Operating the autoclave unit and performing high-level disinfection processes.
  • Completing other duties as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Surgical Technology program or possess equivalent military training. Certification is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.

The bonus is available for external candidates and requires a commitment of 24 months.

Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Call rotation.
80 hours per bi-weekly pay period.
