Our approach is hands-on, handling all financial functions typically found in a school's business office. School Edge Solutions is affiliated with Charter Choices, a company established in 2004 that currently serves over 70 charter and private contract schools in Pennsylvania.

The Independent School Director of Finance will be responsible for leading engagements with independent school clients, overseeing the team assigned to these clients, acting as the main point of contact with school Heads and leadership teams. Additionally, they will play a crucial role in the strategic direction of the firm and enhancing School Edge Solutions' reputation in the independent school sector through networking and engagement with relevant associations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with Heads of School and Boards of Trustees to establish financial strategies aligned with institutional goals
  • Supervise the production of monthly financial reports and present findings to school Finance Committees and Boards of Trustees
  • Lead annual budgeting and planning processes in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support decision-making
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and risk assessment
  • Ensure on-time completion of annual audits
  • Regularly meet with Heads of School to monitor progress and maintain strong relationships
  • Assess and improve internal controls to enhance the quality and timeliness of information provided to clients

The Independent School Director of Finance should possess reliable transportation for travel to client schools. The role is expected to be 50% remote and 50% on-site.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • At least seven (7) years of senior financial leadership experience, with a minimum of three (3) years in independent schools
  • Established professional network in the independent school sector
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA, CPA, or other relevant advanced certification preferred
  • Familiarity with GAAP and various accounting systems
  • Strong spreadsheet skills
  • Experience with tuition management, financial aid, and fundraising systems used in independent schools
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced non-profit environments
  • Excellent social and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented mindset
