Machine Operator 2
Job Overview
Is skilled in an operational process area. May still be expanding skills and techniques in one skill area. Applies knowledge and skills to complete assigned tasks within own area. Works within established SOPs and adheres to quality guidelines. Works with a moderate degree of supervision and has minimal discretion.
Responsibilities and Duties
o Manually packages kits
o Performs cleaning functions
o Tests / Inspects parts for in-process quality checks
o Trains others
o Accurately completes paperwork
o Pulls raw material for order
o Feeds raw material on production line
o Clears most common machine faults
o Performs set up and start up tasks for the machine
o Performs shut down tasks for the machine
o Offers most input for Standard Operating Procedures
o Performs most controls and adjustments for machine settings
o Performs a few Preventative Maintenance tasks
o Demonstrates the ability to follow and document in established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
o Must follow all BD housekeeping policies and procedures
o Must follow all BD safety policies and procedures
o Must be able to work overtime as required to meet BD business requirements
o Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience:
o High school degree
o 2 years manufacturing experience
Minimum Requirements:
o Ability to stand for long periods of time
o Ability to lift 40 lbs
o Ability to do repetitive motion
Basic Skills:
o Can effectively work in a team setting and communicate successfully across the department
o Strong attention to detail
o Ability to work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature with the skill to recognize any deviations from specification
Proficient/Working Skills:
o Must be proficient in English with the ability to read, write, analyze/evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams and perform basic arithmetic
o Basic proficiency with PCs (Personal Computers) and basic use of a Windows environment is required

Machine Operator II - 1st Shift
General Summary of Position
- Responsible for operating equipment in accordance with established procedures to produce quality products at minimum cost consistent with production standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Operates assigned machine or group of machines to manufacture product according to specifications. Assists other operators as necessary. May perform some of the duties of higher classified jobs.
- Maintains high level of safety awareness. Reports all accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses, unsafe acts, hazards, etc., immediately.
- Performs preventative maintenance on own area of responsibility. Records readings and makes adjustments where necessary to maintain quality and minimize waste. Notifies supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.
- Replenishes materials and supplies as required by work instructions. Verifies accuracy of received material.
- Makes authorized adjustments and modifications to machines. Reports all breakdowns and repair needs promptly.
- Keeps work area neat and orderly and complies with GMP requirements. Maintains good housekeeping practices including cleanliness of work area, machines, tools, and equipment. Properly stores materials and supplies when work is complete.
- Assures quality of finished product by conducting random inspection. Rejects unsatisfactory parts or material.
- Works under close supervision, with output monitored frequently. Follows mostly routine, standardized procedures to accomplish assigned tasks. Selects from a variety of established procedures to perform assigned duties.
- May be exposed to simple, routine, repetitive tasks. Work may require extensive training to acquire competency. Normally receives no formal training. May be trained on-the-job or by experienced employees.
- Ability to work independently and without constant direction. Able to follow directions, read, write, and understand English. Ability to use basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Good hand/eye coordination and ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and squat.
Minimum Requirement:
- High School Diploma or GED
