The University Counseling Center at The University of Mississippi and the School of Education at the University of Mississippi seek to demonstrate counseling services and faculty in the area of Counselor Education by inviting applicants to fill a joint staff and non-tenure track faculty position in the University Counseling Center and the Counselor Education Program.

This is a joint appointment, shared equally by the University Counseling Center and the Department of Leadership and Counselor Education.

The incumbent will have responsibilities for supervision and clinical services and faculty responsibilities.

This is a 12-month staff and non-tenure track faculty appointment with a teaching load of 2 courses in fall, spring, and summer semesters.


Counselor Education offers CACREP-accredited M.Ed. programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling, as well as a Ph.
D. program in Counselor Education & Supervision. It also provides a fully-online Ed.
S. degree program in play therapy. The program offers degree programs at the main campus (Oxford) and two regional campuses in North Mississippi.

This is a professional position in which the incumbent provides psychotherapy services for students and supervises trainees/interns in clinical and administrative matters.

The incumbent diagnoses or evaluates mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment through the University Counseling Center.

This position reports to the Director, University Counseling Center.

Responsibilities at the University Counseling Center:

  • Provides individual, couples and group outpatient psychotherapy for students in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provides direct clinical supervision of the graduate trainees/interns and any other staff as assigned by the Director.
  • Provides consultations to staff as needed regarding crisis interventions and hospitalizations.
  • Provides crisis and consultation services to the campus.
  • Consults with the Director regarding student problems and programs regarding psychiatric or psychological evaluations and/or possible withdrawals.
  • Consults and works closely with staff from the division and around the university to promote the designated service area.
  • Provides psycho educational programming for the campus community on an as needed basis, in consultation with the Director.
  • Maintains adequate and timely records related to all University Counseling Center duties as outlined in the University Counseling Center policy.
  • Utilizes technology to efficiently and effectively provide services.
  • May provide clinical services to the Employee Assistance Program as assigned by the Director.
  • May provide services in the University Counseling Center areas other than the designated area.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Counselor Education/Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Teach a variety of graduate level counseling courses across the CACREP curriculum.
  • Provide clinical supervision of practicum and internship students in the counseling program.
  • Participate in program governance, administration, and CACREP curriculum development.
Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Provides mental health and psychological counseling to students and the university community.
  • Consults with students, parents, faculty members, staff members, and administrators regarding individuals of concern.
  • Serves on the Crisis Intervention team, specifically dealing with emotional and psychological issues.
Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
PhD or EdD in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program by date of appointment.

AND

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience, including practicum or internship, related to the Counselor duties. Graduate teaching experience is required.

AND

Licensure:
LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) must be licensed to practice in Mississippi

OR

Ability to practice with supervision at date of hire:

Counselors without LPC must hold a Mississippi Provisional License by the date of hire and are expected to engage in supervision and work toward full Mississippi licensure as an LPC;
