Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Library Technician 1 - Government Documents Technician in the University Libraries. The Technician will work as a member of the Metadata, Cataloging and One-Time Acquisitions department and is responsible for performing descriptive copy cataloging of U.S., international and state government documents including maps, e-resources and microform, as well as monographs, audio/visual materials, serials, e-books and other formats. The Government Documents Technician will need to use national cataloging standards and perform descriptive cataloging using OCLC, Alma, and other cataloging tools. Duties also include overseeing receipt and processing of government documents and completing database projects, routine maintenance of MARC metadata, and assisting with related library projects or initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of customer service experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution; OR
  
• One (1) year of experience as a Library Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR
  
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  

Candidates with technical services experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cataloging or copy cataloging.
  
• Familiarity with international, national, state or local government documents.
  
• Experience with maps or other cartographic materials.
  

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Compensation Grade

Grade 27 (Entry, Step 01 $22.13/hr.; Step 05 $26.07/hr.; Step 10 $32.23/hr.)

The classified employee pay scale is divided into 10 steps. Most employees start at a step 1 and are eligible for an annual step increase with satisfactory performance, until they reach the maximum, step 10. Initial step placement is based on experience and qualifications. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets.
