Job Summary and Qualifications

The Speech Therapist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will conduct a subjective assessment of assigned patient's speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation. You will administer objective tests to assess patient's communication assets and liabilities.
  • You will structure and implement individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.
  • You will evaluate patient regularly during treatment and adjust program as needed to maximize patient progress.
  • You will document progress in patient's chart. You will complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.
  • You will consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.
  • You will perform modified barium swallow tests without supervision.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Speech Pathologist license in the State of Texas
  • Masters Degree in speech pathology
  • A minimum of 2 years SLP experience in a hospital setting required, post CFY
  • Must have Experience with trachs and attending multidisciplinary rounds
  • Must be available to work 2 days a week; no weekends at this time; must be able to work 2 holidays a year.
