DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Location: Fort Mill, SC (Hybrid)

Reports to: Digital and Technology Communications Leader

Overview:

Domtar, a leading manufacturer of paper, pulp, and packaging products used by people and businesses around the world every day, is hiring a Digital Communications Specialist to join its growing digital communications team.

The Digital Communications Specialist leverages social media and other owned media to build the company's reputation, grow brand awareness, and influence progress against company and departmental goals and strategic priorities.

They'll do this by:

  • Partnering with team leaders and other departments to develop and execute on our annual social media strategy and content needs.
  • Being our primary written content creator, curator and community manager for our organic social media activities, including some visual design activities such as graphics and short-form video.
  • Managing our social media editorial calendar for corporate brand accounts and working across the team to schedule and publish content.
  • Curating balanced social media feeds on our key platforms - LinkedIn and Facebook - that tell our story, inspire our audiences, build our reputation and support our position as a leader in the forest products industry
  • Optimizing our company presence on social media channels, including pages and content, to grow brand awareness and support our reputation among key audiences.
  • Writing for our company blog/Newsroom and website.
  • Leveraging search engine optimization on our owned content and websites to support reputational goals.
  • Monitoring and listening to conversations about our brands in social media and traditional media
  • Leading our corporate social media employee advocacy program
  • Serving as the primary backup to the department leader for issue management and crisis communication activities.
  • Proving our success by reporting on the effectiveness of digital communications' content, campaigns and platforms.

This role is in our digital and technology communications team within the corporate communications department.

Key Skills and Characteristics:

  • Demonstrated experience in social media management, including content creation.
  • Excellent writing skills, particularly for short-form content.
  • Some digital graphic design and short-form video experience, with proficiency in Canva and some Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet tight deadlines as necessary
  • Solid understanding of content SEO practices and creating content for websites and social media that is accessible for all users, including those who experience visual and/or hearing impairments or sensitivities
  • Some knowledge of content, website, and search metrics and analytics reporting

Desired Professional Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in communications or a related field (business, marketing, graphic design, etc.)
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in social media content creation and coordination, corporate communications or digital marketing communications in a corporate or agency environment
  • Demonstrable knowledge of social media best practices and use of the following social media platforms professionally, on behalf of a company or other organization:
    • LinkedIn/LinkedIn Business Manager
    • Meta/Facebook and Instagram and Meta Business Suite
    • X
    • YouTube
  • Experience using social media management platforms, such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social and media monitoring/social listening platforms, such as Meltwater, Cision or Talkwalker
  • Some knowledge of Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, Yoast, or similar tools.
  • A working knowledge of the French language is helpful, but not required.
