Senior System Administrator, Datacenter Operations

About this role:

Groq is building the hardware and software for the next generation of high performance machine learning. Groq hardware is designed to be both high performance and highly responsive. Groq's new simplified architecture drives incredible performance at batch size one.
This senior level position will be responsible for deploying and maintaining systems and servers in our data center.

Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:

  • Directly Responsible Individual for our Datacenters and operations
  • Install and maintain servers and other rack gear in our Datacenter and Lab space
  • System Administration tasks:
    • Installation of Linux systems and networks
    • Troubleshooting
    • Device and systems management
    • Automation of tasks and key systems
  • Work closely with InfoSec and other departments to protect Groq's infrastructure
  • Track inventory of spare parts, respond to tickets and general DC duties

Ideal candidates have/are:

  • Extensive experience in a small company environment
  • Desire to take ownership, drive solutions and to make a difference
  • Ability to train entry-level and up employees
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely through video, IM and other systems

Qualifications for this role:

At minimum:

  • 5+ years of Linux System Administration
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Networking Experience (DNS, DHCP, PXE, TCP/IP)
  • Experience writing/modifying code to improve monitoring and automation (e.g., Python, Shell Scripting, etc.)
  • Detail Oriented and Highly Organized
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to work with external parties including vendors and customers
  • Self-motivated and driven to achieve results
  • Flexibility working across multiple systems and contexts
  • 4 year degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent professional experience required
  • Some travel may be required, up to two weeks a quarter, both US and international
  • Ability to move/rack gear up to 50 pounds

Highly valued, not required:

  • Start-up experience
  • Professional experience with common configuration management tools (ansible, chef, puppet, foreman)
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment
  • macOS and Linux System Administration experience
  • Interest in AI/ML technologies

Compensation: At Groq, a competitive base salary is part of our comprehensive compensation package, which includes equity and benefits. For this role, the base salary range is $99,800 to $183,800, determined by your skills, qualifications, experience and internal benchmarks.
