Primary Purpose:

Ensure that the Company is prepared to respond to a crisis (all-hazards including derailments, cyber-attack, pandemic, etc). Work across the organization to develop emergency response and business continuity plans, design and deliver exercise and training content, and engage with outside agencies to ensure an effective response.

Principal Duties:

  • Develop Crisis Management Team processes and procedures
  • Train the Executive Leadership Team on Crisis Management processes and procedures
  • Design and facilitate emergency response exercises at all levels of the organization (including EVP/Crisis Management Team)
  • Work across the company to develop business continuity plans (including but not limited to Technology) and corresponding scenarios, training, and drills
  • Work closely with Operations leaders to develop operational continuity guidelines and corresponding scenarios, training, and drills
  • Develop an all-hazard response approach to the crisis management program including the ability to response to derailments, cyber-attacks, pandemics, etc.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies and local emergency responders to build relationships before, during, and after incidents including ensuring involvement in exercises
  • Work across organizations to identify and subsequently train leaders to serve in Incident Command roles for their respective areas (all-hazards)
  • Train Operations leaders and staff to serve in ICS roles; ensure Incident Commanders and Section Chiefs are trained to allow NS to maintain site ownership
  • Integrate a corporate resource center to support response efforts
  • Create drill scenarios and provide annual exercises to facilitate Crisis Management, field-level ICS, and business continuity training
  • Develop emergency response protocols including tier structure, ICS Roles and Responsibilities, "Planning P" expectations, meeting cadences, alignment with CMT, etc.
  • Create training and resource materials to support employee development
  • Work in conjunction with HAZMAT/Environmental to ensure Hazmat compliance while leading enhanced crisis management efforts
  • Provide leadership and coaching during crisis management and emergency response efforts
  • Lead "after-action" reviews to ensure lessons learned are captured and corrective actions are implemented across the organization

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 6-10 years

Preferred Level: 11-15 years

Education:

Required Level: Bachelor's Degree (BS, BBA, BA)

Licenses / Certifications:
