You ensure quality in the factory and are responsible for meeting quality targets. You are fully responsible for the people, machinery and the identification and elimination of quality losses and problems in the department. You grow your team's capabilities and coordinates departmental activities in accordance with corporate standards, local requirements and ISO standards. In this role, you report directly to the plant manager with dotted line responsibility to corporate quality.

Function and scope of the position:

The Quality Assurance Manager oversees the execution and coordination of all quality systems for raw material receiving, in plant operations and warehouse facility. This role is directly responsible for managing the Quality Assurance and Sanitation teams. The individual will constantly assess and respond to issues of product quality with the primary purpose to assure a consistent and compliant delivery of product meeting Tates/Mondelez Food Safety and Quality standards. The position is responsible for driving continuous quality improvement initiatives across the organization. A strong balance between technical expertise and business acumen is required including the ability to teach and coach staff.

This role will also serve as the back up SQF Practioner for Tate's Bake Shop site (Southampton, NY)

Reports to: VP of Operations

The Primary responsibility of the role includes:

QUALITY & FOOD SAFETY

Demonstrates knowledge of the implementation of food safety principles and sanitation program requirements to control, mitigate and alleviate risks. Understands manufacturing, regulatory and distribution processes to ensure appropriate management of product traceability and recall
  • Leads the review of Quality Policy (QP) in light of new technology, process or emerging hazards, sharing best practices
  • Leads a special situation related to any food safety, quality and regulatory challenge.
  • Leads traceability and recall exercises for food safety, quality or regulatory events.
  • Monitors Quality Systems to ensure compliance to food safety and regulatory requirements for all in process and finished goods
  • Maintain robust food safety programs (e.g HACCP and pre - requisite programs)
  • Routine and primary interact with regulatory representatives at the facility
  • Drive to a defect eradication culture
  • Deployment of fact-based internal auditing program
  • Lead a robust Corrective and Preventative Action program to drive continuous improvement.
  • Further evolve and enhance the quality key performance indicators (KPI's) and track accordingly
  • Lead monthly quality management system review with plant leadership team
  • Implement Consumer Inspired Quality programs such as sensory programs, quality culture and analytical equipment upgrade and maintenance.
  • Ensure standard work through development of work documentation and training to standards
  • Ownership of customer/consumer complaint investigation


INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS

This position will interact with the management team as well as employees and outside suppliers, customers, auditors and Corporate contacts. The position is responsible to lead SQF audit and any other QA and FS related audits including customer audits and FDA audits.

EDUCATION LEVEL:

BACHELOR'S DEGREE Major: Food Science or related field.

EXPERIENCE: This section should outline the areas of functional/technical expertise and the years of experience in these areas required by the job.

FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

1. Relevant Quality Experience - 5+ years

2. Leading Teams - 2+ years

3. GFSI Quality Systems such as SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000 or IS 9000 (preferable) - 2+ years

4. General understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Good Laboratory, Practices (GLP's), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Systems (HACCP), ISO, Regulatory Guidelines, Sensory, and/or Microbiology. - 3+years

5. FDQI certification (Food Defense Qualified Individual) is required and Food Defense awareness training at FDA website should be done.
