Spray Technician/Assistant-In-Training

The Spray Technician reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy. This position actively participates in the maintenance of the golf course; gardens, landscaping, tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. While the Spray Technician will be involved in all aspects of the course operation, the primary responsibility of the Spray Technician is to manage our spray applications, monitor disease/weed pressure, assist with Spray Inventory, and maintain Sprayer Calibration throughout the season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Assistants and Director in creating the Spray Program as part of the Club's Agronomic Plan.
  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, clubhouse grounds, and landscape areas.
  • Schedules work and supervise the employees and the use of equipment.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in pesticide/fertilizer applications and or operates and calibrates pesticide/fertilizer application equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and the maintenance of irrigation and control systems.
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
  • Supervises and participates in the removal of snow during the winter season around the clubhouse parking lots and walkways, as well as winter care for the course and associated grounds.
  • Requires working knowledge of managing and maintaining golf course tees, greens, and fairways. The seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees. Pest control methods and materials, drainage control methods, and irrigation system control, including but not limited to wells, pumps, controllers, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge and safe use when mixing and applying chemicals and commercial products.
  • Requires the ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment. Prepare clear and concise reports and maintain effective employee and public relations. Qualifications:
    • High school education is required. A college degree from an accredited college or university in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, and/or Soil Sciences preferred or equivalent work experience/certifications.
    • Experience: 2-5 years golf course maintenance, preferably in a supervisory and/or management position or increasing responsibility.
    • Requires valid driver's license.
    • Must possess or obtain a Colorado Qualified Supervisor or Certified Operator Pesticide License within 120 days.
    • Must possess the ability to lift 50 pounds and complete the related physical tasks involved with the position.
    • Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating, and motivating personnel.
