Position Overview:
The Fire Protection Technician will be responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of various fire safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and emergency lighting. This role requires a strong understanding of NFPA standards and the ability to work collaboratively within a team focused on fire life safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections, testing, and servicing of fire safety systems, with a particular emphasis on fire extinguishers and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Participate in preventive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability of fire safety systems.
- Assist in the upkeep and minor repairs of fire protection systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, test results, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Familiarize with fire protection control systems to respond to service calls as required.
- Complete work orders and reports in a timely and thorough manner.
- Engage with clients professionally, ensuring effective follow-up communication.
- Participate in after-hours emergency call rotations as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is required; vocational training or industry certifications are advantageous.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and clients.
- Knowledge of NFPA standards, including 10, 17, 96, and 117.
- Certification in Backflow Testing and Repair is required.
- NICET Level 1 Certification is mandatory; NICET Level 2 is preferred.
- A minimum of four years of experience with various fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, deluge, and pre-action).
- Willingness to mentor and support the development of entry-level personnel.
- Ability to lift at least 75 pounds regularly.
- Basic mechanical skills are essential.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
- Capability to read and interpret safety regulations, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals, along with writing routine reports.
- Successful performance of essential duties is required; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Physical Requirements:
This position requires regular standing, walking, and the use of hands for various tasks. Candidates must be able to lift and move weights ranging from 25 to 75 pounds and possess good vision capabilities.
Work Environment:
Technicians may be exposed to mechanical parts, electrical hazards, and various environmental conditions. Daily driving of a company vehicle is required.
