Each technician is equipped with a company vehicle, tools, and technology to facilitate their daily tasks.
Position Overview:
The Fire Protection Technician will be responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and emergency lighting. Familiarity with NFPA standards and protocols is essential. This role involves collaboration with the fire life safety team within a broader Facility Maintenance framework. Key competencies include timely completion of tasks, teamwork, effective communication with management, and diligent follow-up with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct service, testing, inspections, troubleshooting, and installations on fire safety systems, with a focus on fire extinguishers and AEDs.
- Participate in preventive maintenance programs through testing and inspecting fire safety systems.
- Assist in the maintenance and light repair of fire protection systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, test results, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Familiarize with the fire protection control system to respond to service calls as necessary.
- Ensure all work orders and reports are completed thoroughly and punctually.
- Engage with clients in a professional manner, ensuring effective follow-up communication.
- Participate in after-hours emergency call rotations as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is required; vocational training or industry certification is advantageous.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Effective communication skills with peers, supervisors, and clients are essential.
- Knowledge of NFPA standards including 10, 17, 96, and 117 is required.
- Certification in Backflow Testing and Repair is mandatory.
- NICET Level 1 Certification is required; NICET Level 2 is preferred.
- A minimum of four years of experience with various fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, deluge, and pre-action) is necessary.
- Willingness to mentor and support the training of entry-level candidates.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds regularly.
- Basic mechanical skills are essential.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; capable of writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Successful performance of essential duties is required, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Physical Requirements:
This position requires regular standing, walking, using hands for various tasks, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and talking or hearing. Frequent climbing and balancing are necessary. Regular lifting of up to 25 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds are required. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Technicians may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and extreme temperatures may occur. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. Daily driving of a company vehicle is required.
