General Summary of Position
MedStar Health Georgetown University Hospital is actively seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to perform a variety of functions associated with the collection, transportation and processing of laboratory specimens from outpatients. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required or
- the equivalent (GED). required
Experience
- Less than 1 year related experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Phleb Tech - NPA - CPT NPA preferred or
- ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist preferred or
- ASCP - Medical Technologist
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of phlebotomy and laboratory specimen requirements.
- Ability to learn and utilize hospital computer systems.
- Able to remain calm and function in stressful situations.
- Must have effective interpersonal skills and bedside manner since working with individuals who are ill and facing venipuncture procedures.
