NALP seeks a Public Service Coordinator to support, administer, and enhance NALP's ongoing public service initiatives. NALP is a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit legal educational association with a staff of 13 full-time professionals dedicated to helping our members become experts in the field and excel in their jobs which are focused on the career counseling and professional development of law students and lawyers and diversity, equity, and inclusion in law school and legal employers.

The Coordinator is the principal manager and administrator of the website, a unique online platform to help law students and lawyers find public service jobs and career-building resources. They are responsible for maintaining, expanding, and further developing PSJD's catalog of thousands of job announcements for public service legal positions, its directory of civil society and government employers, and its library of professional development and career search resources. They track key performance indicators for PSJD and synthesize quantitative feedback with qualitative feedback. They manage a small data entry staff (4-6 part-time student workers), serve as a central team member on NALP initiatives that support public interest organizations, and build relationships with public interest employers.

The Public Service Coordinator serves as the primary responder to telephone and e-mail inquiries for NALP's public-service-related work. The Coordinator also disseminates information about PSJD's services, public service legal jobs, and other relevant matters. Their duties will include some public speaking via regional and school-based webinars.

While the Public Service Coordinator works in close collaboration with the Director of Public Service Initiatives, they must also work independently in a hybrid work environment.

This person also provides general office and administrative support for staff, is part of the onsite support team for some association conferences and events, and performs other duties as assigned.

Skills

The Coordinator's responsibilities require proficiency and accuracy with database entry and management, spreadsheet use, and word processing.

This position requires working quickly and accurately in a self-directed manner, taking initiative in problem-solving and trouble-shooting, working both collaboratively and independently, communicating accurately and effectively with co-workers, members, and the public on the telephone, in person, and in writing, providing high quality customer service to members and the public, presenting information effectively both orally and in writing, juggling multiple tasks and returning to tasks after interruption, prioritizing in order to meet multiple and competing deadlines, completing tasks with an excellent attention to detail and accuracy, asking questions and seeking guidance when necessary, accepting responsibility for delegated assignments, handling financial matters with integrity and honesty, learning new skills and mastering new applications as needed, maintaining positive working relationships with supervisors and co-workers, and observing confidentiality of association matters.

Experience

Work experience providing a high level of direct customer service is required. Proficiency with web-based applications, interactive databases, and all components of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) is also essential.

Additional skills which are preferred, but not required, include: familiarity with Google Workspace, an aptitude for or interest in acquiring basic technology administration skills, including knowledge of SQL and/or JavaScript. Prior supervisory experience, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Under NALP's Workplace Location Policy this is a hybrid position that calls for the Public Service Coordinator to work from the NALP office a minimum of 1-2 days per month in order to complete the responsibilities of the position. This hybrid role can only be performed within the US in one of the following states: Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. This full-time position is under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Operations, Member Services, and Meetings and the Director of Public Service Initiatives. The position is evaluated by the Executive and Deputy Directors. Benefits include fully paid employee medical and dental insurance coverage, paid holidays, sick leave, vacation, and a retirement plan. Starting salary of $50-$60K depending on experience. Position is available immediately
