The Lab School of Washington is an independent school in Washington, DC for students with language based learning differences. We are currently seeking a full-time upper school visual arts teacher beginning in late August 2024 to join a dynamic and collaborative group of teaching artists.

Candidates should:

  • Hold a degree in visual arts
  • Be a practicing artist-educator who has demonstrated skill and experience in teaching upper school students
  • Have a working knowledge of digital media and design
  • Have a knowledge of art history and different artistic genres
  • Share a portfolio of individual and student work
  • Maintain their own artistic endeavors
  • Have an interest in working with students with learning differences

Responsibilities:

  • Creating curriculum for studio arts classes for students grades 9 -12
  • Preparing and presenting demonstrations using a variety of mediums
  • Assessing student performance
  • Teaching one graphic design/ yearbook class
  • Incorporating different perspectives into lessons
  • Leading critiques

Candidates must have teaching certification or be willing to take the courses required towards certification in the District of Columbia.
