Position Specific Description

This role has the responsibility of leading Transmission Switchyard Engineering projects responsible for reviewing, executing, and validating Greenfield and Brownfield interconnection switchyard projects for Transmission Owners. The Sr Project Management Consultant will be responsible for leading Switchyard design projects for all NEER switchyard activities from conceptual design through construction and commissioning execution.

  • Lead Transmission Switchyard Engineering projects as the engineering project manager that oversees the Engineering Scope of NEER Greenfield and Brownfield Switchyard Engineering projects:
  • Execution of assigned tasks from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution).
  • Securing engineering consulting and project management resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through NEER's Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
  • Coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a station site, support any engineering updates, data and permits necessary to design and build the switchyard.
  • Coordinating the engineering deliverables including scope of work documents, Issued for Bid, Issued for Procurement, Issued for Construction, design criteria and As-built drawings.
  • Coordination with other groups to ensure that the assigned E&C switchyard projects are successful. Generally responsible for representing E&C's internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations/briefing on current progress, issues, and risk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.
  • Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies and Interconnection agreements and ensures that Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistent and in compliance with all ISO requirements and incorporated into the project design. Must be able to work with and communicate often to the respective transmission owners/operators/ISOs to ensure project deliverables will meet specific off-taker requirements, are timely and accurate.
  • Works collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines to determine project priorities, work plans and lines of demarcation.
  • Ensures projects are efficiently, cost effectively and safely implemented in accordance with department process, procedures, industry standards and policies.
  • Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions and/or hearings.
  • Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate with NEER's philosophies
Job Overview

This position assists in the overall management of assigned projects, to ensure compliance within required budgetary, scheduling, and safety goals. Employees in this role support construction work performed by contractors and/or vendors at the project site.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assesses productivity, schedule compliance, work quality, and safety performance on assigned projects

• Participates in walk downs of planned work, validates acceptance of completed work to design requirements, and reviews contractor payment requests

• Verifies constructability, ensures proper resource allocation, assesses field status, and resolves issues as needed

• Coordinates project activities with vendors, suppliers, regulatory agencies, local community officials and the company

• Assists in scope control, budget oversight, resolution of technical issues, performance reporting, scheduling, and work-in-progress

• Interfaces with landowners, local regulators and state agencies

• Reinforces expectations related to safety, procedure compliance, lessons learned, corrective action and appropriate work behaviors for employees and contractor staff

• Coordinates activities or groups such as safety programs, engineering, construction, budget, analysis and contract administration

• Interfaces with project's designated management committee
