POSITION DESCRIPTION

Are you passionate about ensuring safe and efficient transportation for students? Join our team as the Transportation Coordinator You'll lead our transportation department, ensuring the smooth and economical operation of our fleet, and the safety of our students.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

The ideal candidate for the Transportation Coordinator position will be a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. They should possess excellent leadership and communication skills, enabling them to effectively manage a diverse team and coordinate with various stakeholders. A thorough understanding of transportation regulations and compliance is essential, along with the ability to handle accident investigations and ensure proper maintenance of the fleet. The candidate should be proactive, with strong problem-solving abilities, and capable of making timely decisions, especially during inclement weather. Additionally, they should demonstrate fiscal responsibility, be adept at budgeting, and maintain accurate cost records. A passion for student safety and a dedication to continuous improvement in transportation services are key traits for success in this role.

  • Supervise the general maintenance program for a fleet of 12 buses, with specific attention to safety inspections.
  • Implement procedures to ensure the adequacy of the maintenance phase of the safety programs.
  • Establish performance standards and supervise operational care, service, and maintenance of all vehicles within the department.
  • Provide information about the fleet leading to the purchase of new vehicles and declare vehicles surplus.
  • Conduct accident investigations and supervise accident report delivery to appropriate law enforcement and insurance agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with the codes and pertinent policies regarding training, licensing, registration, and operational permits.
  • Keep abreast of laws and State of Georgia policies regarding bus transportation and the safe transport of students.
  • Recruit, recommend for employment, and evaluate transportation department personnel.
  • Manage bus drivers, including scheduling drivers for all regular routes, athletic events, field trips, and summer camps.
  • Ensure substitute coverage for all emergency driver absences.
  • Arrange for special transportation for special events, including arrangements through a charter bus company.
  • Evaluate and monitor charter bus vendors.
  • Provide for safety at all bus stops.
  • Other duties as assigned CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    The candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED and hold a current CDL license with the School endorsement. The candidate must meet school bus driver certification requirements. Ideally, the candidate will have knowledge of auto mechanics and 5-plus years of experience managing a fleet of buses or similarly sized vehicles. The candidate must have proficiency with technology including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and calendaring systems.
