Main Purpose of Job

As a Frontend Engineer with the Maryland Digital Service under the Department of Information Technology, you will tackle statewide engineering challenges, shape the technical direction of our digital services, and support the growth and development of the engineering team. You will assist state agencies in adopting new frontend technologies and overcoming significant digital challenges. You will lead efforts to develop secure and efficient frontend systems and incorporate modern development practices into government operations. You will navigate and help update policies and regulations to modernize the State's digital service delivery.\r

You will work with backend engineers, user interface and user experience designers, and product managers to develop scalable systems and maintain reusable libraries such as a design system. You will collaborate with platform owners and state agencies to understand their needs and constraints, developing strategies to optimize frontend solutions and state resources.�\r

Additionally, you will play a critical role in building secure, efficient, and scalable software that can handle hundreds of thousands of users. You will leverage best practices in continuous integration and delivery, automated testing, and infrastructure as code to ensure high-quality and resilient frontend services. Your contributions will be vital in enhancing digital experiences for Marylanders and advancing the state's digital capabilities.�\r

POSITION DUTIES

Frontend Development \r
Write clean, scalable,\r
and efficient code in modern frontend languages and frameworks such as\r
JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, or Vue.JS.� Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines,\r
automate testing and deployment processes.\r
Develop and maintain reusable components and libraries, including design\r
systems.� Ensure frontend systems are\r
secure, optimized for performance, and compliant with industry standards and\r
best practices. Troubleshoot and debug frontend systems and optimize\r
performance.� Stay updated with\r
technology trends and advancements.\r

Project Management and\r
Collaboration\r
Participate in project\r
management planning, including timelines, cost, and resource allocation.� Collaborate with designers, frontend\r
engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate customer needs into\r
technical specifications. Work with IT and cloud engineers to ensure efficient\r
resource utilization.� Conduct code\r
reviews and formal requirements gathering as needed.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:� Three years of\r
relevant experience in frontend engineering, which includes proficiency in\r
frontend programming languages and frameworks such as JavaScript, TypeScript,\r
React, or Angular, experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and\r
deployment processes, strong understanding of responsive design, cross-browser\r
compatibility, and web standards and experience with version control systems\r
like Git.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who have\r
one or more of the following skillsets or experience:\r
Experience with cloud platforms\r
such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.\r
Previous experience in a government\r
or public sector environment. �\r
