Summary

The Hampton VA Medical Center is a 1-C, teaching facility serving Eastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. This position is a Primary Care Nurse Manager position located on the Langley Airforce Base.



Duties

The Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring that subordinate nursing personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice. This includes the authority to accept, amend or reject the work of subordinates. In addition, to be eligible for

head nurse pay, individuals in the assignment must have continuing responsibility for the following functions:

  • Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work
  • Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates
  • Evaluating the performance of subordinates; Making recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of subordinates; Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters; Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors
  • The Nurse Manager shall comply with Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines
  • The Nurse Manager is also responsible and accountable for maintaining BLS or ACLS training (if required by the clinics they oversee) and for performing activities that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements outlined in the four (4) dimensions of the Clinical Nurse Path qualification standards.

  • Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information.
  • Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned. The incumbent may receive a variety of additional assignments or special projects, either to meet the needs of the Medical Center or designed for professional growth of the individual.
