Deputy Director-Davis Center and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence

302606

Williams Campus,Williamstown

The College is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time Deputy Director of the Davis Center (DC) and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence (PIE) - both units are part of the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (OIDEI). The Davis Center advances broad campus engagement with complex issues of identity, history, and cultures as they affect intellectual, creative, and social life. Pathways for Inclusive Excellence aims to ensure all students thrive academically at Williams and beyond through opportunities and programs that work to eradicate troubling disparities in higher education.

Reporting to the Directors of the Davis Center and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence, the deputy director will help carry out the vision for these two units and serve as a manager and leader of the staff in these two units. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading and supporting a team of exceptional professionals; serving as a liaison to campus partners in academic and administrative units; and developing meaningful ways to integrate office programs on and beyond campus.

The deputy director will have demonstrated and deep experience helping students fulfill their academic and co-curricular pursuits; and be skilled at facilitating successful working and learning relationships between and among students, faculty, staff, and alum. The deputy director will provide advice and counsel to the directors and other members of the OIDEI leadership team and help manage the planning, development, and operations of Davis Center and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence programs and initiatives, including advising and mentoring dozens of student affinity groups (identities that are represented in over half of the student body).

Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, economic status, gender, disability status, gender expression, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with many different individuals, offices, and departments on campus is essential. In a cover letter, applicants should highlight their relevant experience and also describe how they will embrace the college's commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community.

Responsibilities:

The Deputy Director's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Providing direct and varied support to the Davis Center co-directors.
  • Supervising and mentoring a diverse group of professional staff.
  • Advising and mentoring individual students, student affinity groups, and student leaders.
  • Overseeing operations for pre-first-year summer programs, academic fellowships; and work collaboratively with faculty mentors and colleagues
  • Serving as a thought partner on the integration of office-wide initiatives.
  • Overseeing budgets for the Davis Center and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence in consultation with the Directors.
  • Managing processes for utilization of space in the Davis Center buildings.
  • Developing communications highlighting opportunities to advance DC and PIE efforts; and, representing the DC, PIE, and IDEI to internal and external constituents.
  • Collaborating with campus partners on planning, policy creation, and various efforts to build a community rich in cultural awareness and inclusive of all identities.
  • Delivering and coordinating workshops and facilitating conversations on matters of inclusion (e.g., bias, racial justice, social justice, restorative practices, intergroup dialogue).
This position is a full-time, year-round appointment. Some evening and weekend hours are required. Pay range is $105,000 to $115,000 per year, commensurate with experience. A bachelor's degree is required, an advanced degree is preferred; and a minimum of five years of related experience is required. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required.

Employment at Williams is contingent on the verification of background information submitted by the applicant, including the completion of a criminal record check, and education when applicable. Decisions regarding appointments, promotions, and conditions of employment comply with applicable federal or state law prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, or military service.

Beyond meeting fully its legal obligations for non-discrimination, Williams College is committed to building a diverse and inclusive community where members from all backgrounds can live, learn and thrive. As part of this commitment, we will ensure that persons with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations.
