Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States Pingree School Full time

Pingree School is a dynamic and aspirational, independent, all-gender day school on the North Shore of Boston, located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in South Hamilton, where approximately 385 students in grades 9 through 12 solve problems, build community, and learn how to learn. Pingree School empowers every community member to pursue knowledge with courage and imagination, thrive in joy and challenge, and create a more just and equitable world. Committed to developing global citizens, Pingree actively seeks faculty, staff and students of character and intelligence from diverse social, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Pingree School seeks an enthusiastic, experienced and student-centered math teacher to join our mathematics department and lead our established Quant Center ("QC") as a member of the Educational Resource Center team. We seek educators who will build upon Pingree's established integrated curriculum and collaborative approach to teaching mathematics. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of and passion for mathematics, a proven record of excellence in teaching, a broad understanding of the way quantitative reasoning informs and augments critical reasoning, and an appreciation for problem-based, student centered pedagogy. In addition, candidates should embrace a growth mindset, have a familiarity with quantitative based sciences and an understanding of student learning styles. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and experience integrating anti-racism curriculum into math teaching and coursework.

The director of the QC is responsible for:

  • Supporting students in all levels of math and science.
  • Staffing the QC when not teaching to provide help to students who drop in for extra-help as needed.
  • Scheduling regular tutoring appointments for students who have been identified by the academic office or math department as requiring ongoing sustained support.
  • Organizing and managing digital and print math resources to support student initiative, self-help and learning.
  • Providing support, guidance, and curricular feedback for math and science teachers.
  • Identifying common weaknesses for students and share trends with the math and science departments for curriculum development.
  • Facilitating the QC peer tutoring program and maintaining consistency with peer tutoring across all programs.
  • Coordinating student resource support in conjunction with the Educational Resource Center and working collaboratively with the directors of the ERC, Writing Center, and Learning Commons. In addition to leading the QC, candidates should expect to teach two sections of mathematics. They will enjoy the process of creating and sharing original course materials and have an interest in integrating technology and authentic problem solving into the classroom. Furthermore, they will be eager to participate in a "course team" that collaborates regularly to ensure as common an experience as possible for students within each course. We seek candidates who are committed to and enjoy working with adolescents in all areas of school life. They also should be open to exploring collaborative, experiential and interdisciplinary teaching opportunities, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, and a willingness to explore and share the ways in which diverse voices have contributed significantly to the development of modern mathematics. In addition to classroom teaching and leading the QC, the director will be expected to coach and/or supervise one season of a sport or equivalent activity and may serve as an advisor. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for two professional references. Pingree School is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
