Data Engineer I

As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development, maintenance, and optimization of data pipelines and systems. Working closely with the data engineering team, you will be responsible for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data from various sources into data warehouses or other storage solutions. Primary focus will be on supporting the organization's data infrastructure and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of data processes.

Our team, Product Analytics and Experimentation team enables Expedia to develop, democratize and drive continuous improvement of shared methodologies, frameworks, tools and services that power user experience optimization analysis and insight capabilities, including Product Benchmarking and Competitive Intelligence, leveraging inner-source approaches wherever possible. Team drives excellence in experimental design, statistical modelling and scientific approach to T&L and own platform health evaluation.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design effective ETL processes
  • Develop and maintain ETL workflows to integrate data from diverse sources into centralized repositories
  • Implement data transformations and cleansing procedures to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data
  • Optimize data processing tasks for performance and efficiency
  • Work with data warehousing technologies to design and maintain data storage solutions
  • Ensure data warehouses are organized, well-architected, and scalable
  • Implement data quality checks and validation procedures to identify and address anomalies or inconsistencies in the data
  • Collaborate with data analysts to understand and address data quality issues
  • Write and maintain code (SQL, Python, Scala etc.) for ETL processes and data manipulation
  • Collaborate with the development team to integrate data engineering solutions with overall system architecture
  • Document ETL processes, data models, and system architecture for future reference and knowledge sharing
  • Monitor data pipelines for performance issues and troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Collaborate with IT and operations teams to ensure the availability and reliability of data systems
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering
  • Participate in training programs and seek opportunities for professional development

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
  • Basic understanding of data modeling, database design, and data warehousing concepts
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., SQL, Python, Scala)
  • Familiarity with ETL tools and frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Knowledge on Data Warehouse concepts

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $86,000.00 to $120, Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $137,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
