The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS), a flagship Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care provider, is one of the largest and busiest VA medical centers in the country.
Its two hospitals, located in Little Rock and North Little Rock, anchor a broad spectrum of inpatient and outpatient health care services, ranging from disease prevention through primary care, to complex surgical procedures, to extended rehabilitative care.
This System serves as a teaching facility for more than 1,500 students and residents enrolled in approximately 65 educational affiliates; its principal affiliate is the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Pathologists are licensed physicians who direct clinical and anatomic pathology laboratory services; perform biopsies; evaluate surgical, cytology, and autopsy specimens; interpret laboratory tests; and serve as laboratory consultants to other physicians.
Duties included, but not limited to:
Performing surgical pathology gross, microscopic, and final diagnosis rendering along with coding of surgical reports with pathology in rotation with 5 other pathologists.
Surgical pathology receives biopsies, small specimens and complex resection cases in genitourinary and gastrointestinal systems, biopsies and small surgical cases from orthopedics, podiatry, and ENT services.
Participate in prospective peer review and retrospective review of 10% cases when needed.Additional responsibilities will include oversight section of the core laboratory to be determined, establishing QA and QI parameters for the section.
Participate on hospital/departmental committees and hospital/departmental conferences as needed.Ensure compliance with federal statutes, VA directive and policies and The Joint Commission and NEO standards.
Supervision of pathology trainees in surgical and clinical pathology.
Teaching of rotating medical students, pathology residents on regular basis and clinical fellows and laboratory technical staff as needed.
Provide consultation to Medical Center and laboratory staff in matters of test utilizations, technical and result interpretation.This position may have minimal direct patient contact. Primarily, patient service is accomplished by providing services to our provider customers.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
