About the team

As a regulated business, our second line of defense team plays a critical role in ensuring Stripe is effectively trained and aware of our top risks and regulatory obligations. In this role, you will help to ensure that Stripe continues to promote a culture of risk and compliance. You will play a key role in the development and evolution of Stripe's risk and regulatory compliance programs. As a regulated business, our second line of defense team plays a critical role in assuring the risk and compliance health of Stripe within the broader financial ecosystem.

We are a globally-distributed team, across the US, EMEA and APAC.

What you'll do

As the leader of the Compliance Program Oversight Office, you will serve as the primary second line of defense resource for information and activities for Global Regulatory Compliance and ERM. You will be responsible for building the strategic resource hub and process methodology that enables effective engagement between Stripe and our global financial partners and regulators. You will be responsible for evolving and transforming Stripe's ERM program frameworks including risk assessment and risk reporting programs to be more data-driven, risk calibrated, and tech-enabled. This leader will be responsible for developing KPI's/KRI's to ensure appropriate monitoring for performance, driving metrics and analysis to identify trends/anomalies as well as developing associated programs. Given Stripe's global presence, your role will involve designing and implementing scalable information solutions and communication strategies to address market and partner-specific needs.

Responsibilities

  • Set and implement strategy to drive the maturation of the enterprise risk management program including adoption across the enterprise creating a more data driven decision making enterprise risk framework
  • Support ownership of high impact partner audits, including both content and DRI preparation
  • Lead the framework for identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks working closely with the global compliance strategic programs leads and cross functional stakeholders to gain adoption of the program
  • Maintain strong ownership of engagement frameworks, ensuring resolution of issues as they arise, with an eye towards driving sustained growth
  • Develop and monitor program health metrics as well as select management level KRI/KPIs that may indicate negative and/or material risk trends
  • Analyzing new activity and emerging risks, in partnership with first line of defense to ensure risk taking activities are credibility challenged and in line with the company's strategic business goals and within risk appetite
  • Ensure the overall program integrates with other governance programs and adheres to industry best practices and regulatory expectations
  • Lead and liaise with cross-functional teams such as Marketing, Risk Management, Operations, Audit, and Legal to ensure alignment with compliance requirements; delegating and overseeing assigned tasks on the underlying project(s)

Minimum requirements

  • 12+ years of professional experience in compliance, enterprise risk management, business process analysis, strategy and operations, consulting, and/or program management with at least 3 years of experience in FinTech or financial services industry.
  • Extensive experience building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders with strong influencing skills to drive parties towards an optimal outcome
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective governance, risk management practices, risk assessment methodologies, and operational risk issues that global fintechs with a wide-range of payments and consumer products face, and a growth mind-set to help scale risk initiatives for the future of Stripe
  • Excellent communication skills; a demonstrated aptitude for communicating clearly and effectively to a wide array of audiences, including senior management, Committees, Boards
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and data skills, with keen attention to detail, and an ability to transform large and complex data sets into simple and understandable formats, including heat maps and trends
  • Strong stakeholder management, including navigating difficult situations, negotiating timelines, and influencing internal and external stakeholders across organizations and borders
  • Ability to distill complex, ambiguous risk and policy problems into clear, concise, and reliable guidance for internal stakeholders and Stripe users
