Field Producer, Arabic Digital Production Hub

BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster, part of BBC News, delivering a wide range of language and regional services and working increasingly with other parts of BBC News to serve global audiences. It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of around 360 million globally, including TV, digital platforms such as social media, AM, FM, shortwave, digital satellite and cable channels.
All Language Services are multiplatform, including a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text and interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms.
The role is part of the Arabic Digital Production Hub.
Main responsibilities
As Senior Journalist Field Producer, you will work with bilingual correspondents, producing in the field at short notice, you'll also lead on commissioning and shaping ideas in collaboration with colleagues working on multiple platforms. You'll also:
- Produce in the field in the US and overseas, including in hostile environments
- Create original content for digital audiences
- Help develop content from reporters and pioneer new ways of working
- Script edit, package, and compile impactful content for digital, social, radio, and TV platforms
- Ensure all content complies with BBC Editorial Guidelines and legal obligations
- Ensure all assignments are appropriately risk-assessed
- Ensure suitable commissions are available in English for use by other languages
- Liaise with language services, bureaux, and output teams across the World Service and wider BBC News
To be successful in the role you must have excellent command of English and Arabic, also:
- A highly skilled producer: calm, organised, and efficient, with proven field experience and sound editorial ability and creativity
- Good working knowledge of news systems and understanding of audiences and output for language services
- Ability to juggle competing demands and handle a constantly changing news agenda
- Familiarity with the roles of output and content teams (Planning/Digital Output/Assignment desk)
- Proven experience in producing and planning digital-first text, vertical shorts, and social treatments
- Ability to adapt to different audiences and media
- High standard of editorial judgement, writing ability, and production skills based on extensive journalistic experience
- Excellent record of producing on-the-day and planned digital video content, with strong SEO awareness for global audiences
- Ability to source, commission, and produce digital content for multiple language service audiences
- Proven ability in collaborative editorial teamwork
- Expertise in creating, overseeing, and subbing videos, with essential craft video production and editing skills and knowledge of emerging video trends
- Committed to inclusivity and prioritizing underserved audiences in all aspects of content creation and collaboration

Salary: Up to $100,000 per annum gross, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Contract type: Permanent. A local hire position and eligible candidates must be able to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or existing work authorisation).
