The Southland Conference, based in Frisco, Texas, and serving 12 member institutions in Texas and Louisiana, is seeking applicants for the Director of Creative Media and Communications. 

 

The selected applicant, under the direction of the Associate Commissioner of Communications and Branding, shall be responsible for the overall management of the Conference’s creative and NIL strategy, while assisting in the Conference’s communications and branding efforts. The Director of Creative Media and Communications will develop with current and innovative creative measures to elevate the Southland Conference’s brand. The candidate will be working closely with Conference staff, athletics administrators, and student-athletes across the membership to develop an engaging and transformational creative strategy and execute that vision.  


Responsibilities

  • Research, conceptualize, and execute high-level graphics, videos, and various external projects promoting the Southland Conference and its membership across all external and social media platforms including, but not limited to, team coverage, telling the story of the Southland Conference, stories of student-athletes and coaching staffs, institution-based stories, purpose-driven initiatives, and other initiatives as they arise; 
  • Serve as a contact in the communications office for various sports as assigned by the Associate Commissioner of Communications and Branding; 
  • Collect and implement content at various events to use as resources for creative content strategies; 
  • Serve as the primary social media manager for the Conference including updated analytics and figures and social media planning and management; 
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders in the Conference, including communications, external relations, senior level, and the membership to develop storytelling, messaging, and revenue opportunities through NIL and other external strategies; 
  • Create and utilize motion graphics to be used for social platforms, ESPN networks, and in-arena video boards during conference championships; 
  • Lead role in producing compelling content during Southland Conference Media Days for select sports and Conference championship events; 
  • Responsible for hiring, mentoring, and directing creative volunteers and independent contractors to ideate and develop a content plan at; 
  • Implementing innovative methods to the Conference’s traditional and non-traditional media relations and statistical services, social media and video efforts, as well as publicity and promotional methods that grow and enhance the reputation of the Conference and its member institutions;  
  • In-depth knowledge of NCAA Division I communications responsibilities such as writing press release, managing back end of website website, producing weekly reports, maintaing statistics, and providing in-depth knowledge and strategy to assigned sports; 
  • Developing productive working relationships with national, regional, and local media that enhance coverage of the Conference and its members;   
  • Serving as a leader for NIL-related matters in conjunction with our member institutions as well as the Conference’s partnership with INFLCR and beyond; 
  • Coordinating with INFLCR on product updates in the NIL marketplace feature to present to the membership; 
  • Meet and coordinate in person with membership NIL contacts as well as INFLCR to strategize effective projects; 
  • Provide NIL digital, social media and brand-building education to student-athletes, coaching staffs, institution leaders, and Conference staff; 
  • Conduct monthly virtual meetings with creative personnel throughout the membership; 
  • Performing other duties as requested by the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Associate Commissioner. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in communications/creative offices at an NCAA institution or conference is preferred; 
  • A vast knowledge in the Adobe suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, and Illustrator; 
  • Knowledge of the communications and creative industry, current and emerging technologies related to sports communications, creative, and NIL; 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required;  
  • Applicants should be proficient in Adobe and Microsoft suite.
