The Company:

Our client is a technology company based in Cambridge, MA, commercializing a breakthrough electrochemical process called Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE). ALE uses renewable electricity to make lithium cheaply, safely, and with a lower carbon footprint. Moreover, ALE is more versatile than traditional extraction methods and can unlock huge untapped lithium resources in the US and globally, alleviating a major bottleneck in the global transition to EVs.

The Position:

We’re seeking a Head of Business Development to own and manage the customer acquisition process. This role will be crucial to the company’s scaleup and deployment of Advanced Lithium Extraction and is a great opportunity for an ambitious Business Development professional to play a meaningful role in the energy transition. As the Head of Business Development, you will be responsible for leading business development efforts, including sourcing new customer leads, selling the company’s vision and value proposition, and signing agreements with customers and strategic partners.


This full-time role is preferably in-person at the company office in the Boston area and will require travel to customers and industry events. The Head of BD will report to the CEO and work closely with the rest of the management team.


Candidate Qualifications

  • 5-15 years of total relevant experience, including experience selling and closing large, complex deals with enterprise customers
  • Experience with hardtech and/or industrial sectors; industrial water treatment, chemical production + refining, metals/mining, batteries, oil & gas, automotive, semiconductor, PV, lidar, new materials/coatings, industrial biotech
  • Experience in relationship building, account management, and technology upselling
  • Strong in relevant lead hunting and lead development through networking and direct outreach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to convincingly communicate the company vision and value proposition. The ability to communicate technical information and work with technical customers is necessary.
  • The desire to be in a dynamic startup environment and be adaptable to changing information. Experience working for a high-growth startup is a plus
  • Willingness to travel in the US and internationally to meet with customers


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new opportunities and customer leads in the lithium brine, battery recycling, and hard rock mining industries
  • Develop strategies to effectively sell the company vision and value proposition and build relationships with potential customers
  • Efficiently qualify leads and identify key stakeholders in the customer decision making process
  • Skillfully propose, negotiate, and sign project agreements with customers that are optimized to meet objectives
  • Work with leadership and engineering teams to align customer pipeline with commercialization objectives and company strategy
  • Represent the company at industry events
