Position Overview

The Project Developer, Renewable Energy role is full-time position which will represent Middle River Power in all development related activities and will serve as an integral team member to support the development of energy storage projects in the California CAISO, primarily focused in CAISO. The position is a manager level role with advancement opportunities, depending on performance.

This position reports to the Vice President of Development. The Vice President of Development reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations and Development.

This position is preferred to located in Spokane, WA. Remote work in the northwest US will be considered on a case-by-case basis.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preliminary development, contracting, execution, and commissioning of utility-scale storage projects in CASIO.
  • This position will have day-to-day responsibility for supporting schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project is completed in the most cost-effective, timely, and competitive manner to include:
  • Daily activities associated with development planning, design, engineering, environmental, licensing, permitting, and procurement.
  • Managing timely completion within the scheduled and budgetary constraints in compliance with applicable technical requirements and all regulatory requirements
  • Support financial analysis as it relates conceptual designs, construction and operating budgets. The Project Developer is capable of working with little direct supervision in accomplishing their tasks.
  • Support activities necessary for financing, such as diligence data room population, contract exhibit generation, and negotiations.
  • Work well in a fast-paced team environment, yet able to be highly efficient while working independently.
  • Management of subcontractor schedules and critical deliverable review.
  • Perform prospecting and scoping activities, including cold calls and arranged meetings.
  • Identify land acquisition opportunities.
  • Assist development team in preparation of marketing and generation of off-take (PPA) proposals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills a must as this individual will help represent the company in a variety of venues.
  • Ability to effectively present plans and progress updates to management team, stakeholders and project partners.
  • Maintain ongoing assessment of energy market conditions, trends, and opportunities across multiple political and geographic environments and markets.


Required Qualifications

  • An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Energy Development, Sustainability, Community Development, Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Permitting, Real Estate Development or related study from an accredited institution.
  • Candidate should have 3+ years of experience developing renewable projects within the United States or Project Management of large complex capital projects.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies.
  • Can demonstrate excellent writing skills, is detail-oriented, critically-minded, deadline conscious..
  • Can tailor communications for varied audiences from financial to engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Teams, Visio and MS Project programs is a must.
  • Identify project concept, sites, market and assess feasibility.
  • Develop, review, analyze and maintain projects budgets, including assessing and coordinating personnel and resources to complete projects.
  • Coordinate and negotiate with joint venture partners, city, state and federal agencies for program requirements and concessions.

  • Monitor phases including inspections, scheduling, permit compliance.
  • Prepare and present for approval project budget, schedule, and other project related activities.
  • Develop and maintain Project Risk Assessment.
  • Provide Weekly Report to Management and provide Monthly Reports to Banks/Financiers/Government/Partners
  • Review and provide input into development of financial model and its assumptions

·        Identify and communicate to VP any project risks and develop mitigation strategies.

·        Traveling as needed for the job (current expectation is approximately ~40-50%).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree is preferred in engineering, business, or finance preferred. (Not Required)
  • Energy industry experience is preferred.
