CLASSIFICATION:        Treatment Services, regular, full-time, non-exempt

SUPERVISOR:                Behavioral Health Director


Job Summary

The SUDP Counselor will support adult patients at a community health clinic, addressing substance abuse, smoking cessation, homelessness, and more. Responsibilities include assessments, treatment documentation, intervention, outreach, referrals, follow-up care, and educational activities. The role emphasizes cultural sensitivity and collaboration with families, community support, and service providers to promote healthy lifestyles.


Major Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling for substance use disorders.
  • Collaborate on co-occurring disorders and integrated care models.
  • Maintain accurate case records in compliance with privacy laws.
  • Plan and deliver counseling services for various treatment programs.
  • Develop and adjust individualized long-term recovery plans.
  • Coordinate services with various agencies.
  • Tailor approaches to patients’ unique needs and backgrounds.
  • Analyze patient stories to identify strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Support treatment plans with therapeutic responses and skill development.
  • Continuously update and improve treatment plans.
  • Complete necessary intake and assessment paperwork.
  • Stay current with professional knowledge through research and networking.
  • Participate in case management meetings and provide feedback.
  • Maintain up-to-date treatment documentation in an electronic system.
  • Act professionally and courteously with team members and external agencies.
  • Educate community programs on substance use disorder topics.
  • Engage in ongoing cultural and substance use disorder training.
  • Promote wellness within the community through teamwork and care services.


Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • State of Washington Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) license.
  • Knowledge of community resources and substance abuse treatment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent proofreading and grammatical skills.
  • Proficiency with office equipment and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to move 25-30 lb. items and handle extended sitting and stress.
  • Local travel capability.
  • Commitment to patient and peer service.
  • Knowledge of DSM, ASAM Levels of Care, and Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Support for recovery-based lifestyles.
  • Successful completion of background checks and pre-employment screenings.
