Accounting Specialist
We are seeking an Accounting Specialist for a well-known Educational Organization in West LA. This organization is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and holistic development in all students. The role supports all areas of billing, accounts receivable and communicating past dues to contracted parties.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable functions: bill families, collect tuition and fees, communicate with parents as needed, and reconcile transactions in Blackbaud Tuition Management.
- Monitor, process, and reconcile One Card transactions for Pavilion and Events.
- Review and disseminate budget activities to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Act as the liaison for school bus transportation, coordinating with external bus companies, meeting with drivers, and communicating schedule changes to parents and school administration.
- Prepare monthly financial close journal entries, including expense accruals, depreciation expenses, and revenue recognition.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in external audit and tax preparation processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely record keeping of cash receipts and disbursements in both hard and soft copy formats.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on accounting experience in an office environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Upholds professional integrity, confidentiality, and judgment; maintains discretion with organizational information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Self-directed, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, G-Suite, Blackbaud, and Google Docs.
- Capable of interpreting information, applying logical reasoning to problem-solving, and drawing relevant conclusions.
- Excellent team player with skills in active listening, collaboration, and fostering open dialogue.
- Can independently complete assigned tasks and projects in a timely manner under minimal supervision.
- Ability to understand and execute directions from supervisors and school leadership effectively.
- Capable of lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 5 pounds when necessary.
