Job Description:

The Systems Engineer’s role is to coordinate the activities to support the IT infrastructure at all locations. This includes the implementation, testing and support of server, storage and network computing needs.


Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems or a related field. Equivalent work experience of seven years may be substituted for formal education requirement.


Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning:

  • Work with the IT staff to implement tactical and strategic plans to ensure infrastructure (network, server, storage) capacity meets existing and future requirements.
  • Work with the Director and Senior Systems Engineer to draft an enterprise architectural plan for the overall logical and technical infrastructure for all sites.
  • Assist in the development and execution of an infrastructure capacity plan.

Acquisition and Deployment:

  • Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of corporate and remote hardware and software products, upgrades, services and standards for the organization’s network.
  • Partner with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to achieve best possible pricing and service level agreements.

Operational Management:

  • Coordinate and ensure effective performance and operation of servers, including e-mail, print, backup, application and database servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Coordinate and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions and intrusion detection systems.
  • Ensure documentation for all systems and various services is kept accurate and up to date.
  • Continually evaluate new technology platforms to support organizational strategies, cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility. Initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing plans to support organizational strategies and efficiencies.
  • Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting end user workstation hardware, software and peripheral devices.
  • Provide escalated support for both custom and purchased software and hardware.
  • Approve and administer user accounts, permissions and access rights.
  • Establish and track service level agreements with end users.

Position Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Seven+ years’ experience in a mid to large market company.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and ability to develop a rapport with the user base.
  • Experience in manufacturing and shop floor is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, storage, routers, switches, hubs, network interface cards, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with designing, configuring and monitoring VMWare ESX server products in a multi-server, multi-site environment.
  • Experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide network concepts such as TCP/IP network protocols and standards, switching and routing, LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technology is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of server and PC operating systems, including:
  • Microsoft Windows and Windows Server
  • Microsoft Active Directory (topology design, replication and group policy design and configuration)
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • O365
  • SharePoint online
  • HP-UX and/or Linux experience a plus
  • Hands-on experience with configuring, installing and monitoring storage area networking (SAN) hardware and software.
  • Basic administration skills with Microsoft SQL Server database server software a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
