We're on the hunt for a Preventative Maintenance Clerk to assign repair and maintenance work orders to in-house technicians (electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc.). We work at the state-of-the art 1.2 million sq. ft. EPA site in Durham, NC. (Yes, that EPA. The Environmental Protection Agency). This union position pays $26.19 per hour and starts in mid-September.

What we do all day...

The EPA site is massive. There are laboratories, administrative buildings, a cafeteria, a day care center, etc. These buildings have needs for maintenance and repair, which we service. Our clerk receives, prints, and assigns the repair request to the appropriate team of electricians, plumbers, carpenters, security personnel, HVAC technicians, etc. They complete the work order and submit the report back to the clerk for recording. Seems simple enough, right?


There's lots of printing, stapling, filing (oh my gosh lots of filing), data entry, and recording work order information into the system. The role also...

  • Schedules inspections using computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
  • Calls or emails customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Keeps digital and manual/printed record of inspections and work orders.
  • Files completed work order reports digitally and manually on paper using organized storing system.
  • Reviews completed work orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Conducts in-office one-on-ones for report clarification or correction with service crew tradespersons when necessary.
  • Answers calls from helpline.


Our perfect candidate is someone who is...

  • Detial oriented. (Did you catch that? 😉)
  • A strong and positive communicator.
  • Very familiar with, or even proficient in the use of, MS Suite.
  • Not afraid of paper cuts. This role will print upwards of 2,000 pages per month (work orders, inspection reports, inspection results, etc.). Don't worry, we have plenty of Band-Aids.
  • Plays well with others in the sandbox. Our office is small with only 3 people so it's important to be a generally positive, helpful, and friendly person.
  • Experienced in maintenance scheduling or planning or appointment setting.
  • A High School Diploma (or equivalent) recipient.
