Summary
Performs a variety of routine clerical, secretarial, and administrative work in keeping official records and providing administrative support to the staff, programs, and services of the Health Division. Provides administrative support to the Health Director and acts as point of contact for customer inquiries.
Essential Functions

- Performs routine secretarial and administrative support providing customer assistance, data processing, record keeping, accounting and payroll.
- Receives members of the general public; provides information and responds to inquiries from employees, citizens, and others.
- Oversees the collection and pick up of medical waste and maintains State required medical waste disposal records.
- Inputs application data and information for food establishments, temporary food service, pools, camps, etc.
- Plans and coordinates Public Health events in conjunction with staff.
- Schedules septic abandonments, complaint investigation, and meeting requests.
- Notifies residents and stakeholders of public hearings and meetings.
- Coordinates annual reports for various State agencies.
- Responsible for posting Board of Health agendas and assembling meeting packets.
- Acts as Recording Secretary for Board of Health meetings by attending and composing meeting minutes.
- Prepares and monitors work orders.
- Place supply orders for office and inspectional needs.
- Composes, types, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material, as directed.
- Submits legal notices to Media Outlets and verifies receipt.
- Processes claims and vouchers for payment; create purchase orders; verifies budget coding.
- Prepares all weekly accounts payable checks for distribution.
- Plans conferences and training sessions; coordinates travel plans for staff.
- Other duties as required by the Health Director.
Work Hours
This is a full-time position with typical 37.5 hours per week Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM Tuesday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Occasional availability for night meetings required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, accounting, or data processing;
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible, related experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year for year basis.
