Payroll and Benefits Partner

Columbus, United States Northstar Cafe Full time

To love what I do. To smile every day. To celebrate the little things. To simplify my life. To grow an herb garden. To take yoga classes. To run a marathon. To eat more vegetables. To serve others. To be a great friend. To celebrate the little things. To be more present. To be more patient. To never stop learning. To find a job that matters. To support a better food system. To give back to my community. To share joy. To pursue my dreams. To achieve my goals.

Our purpose: to share joy and delicious food, while making a positive impact on the world. As a member of Northstar and Brassica’s support office, you’ll work every day to help our organization achieve these goals.

Our support office team is small, nimble and works tirelessly to keep our restaurants running — doing everything big and small, to help create loved restaurant experiences, today and for decades to come.

If you love being in service to others and are looking for an opportunity to support and influence a growing restaurant company, we invite you to apply. Experience with HR and payroll systems is a plus; a great attitude is everything.

Job Description:

As an HR, Payroll and Benefits Partner, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of payroll and benefits administration processes for multiple restaurants. Working closely with the support team and restaurant managers, you will oversee various aspects of payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance with relevant regulations.

You’ll also eat delicious food in our restaurants, play an integral part in an award-winning restaurant organization, and beam with pride as you facilitate our continued growth and success.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Review and process bi-weekly payrolls for thirteen restaurants and counting
  • Manage open enrollment processes and oversee insurance offerings
  • Support our team members in a positive and caring manner with benefits needs and concerns
  • Process workers’ compensation claims and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Oversee unemployment claims, liaising with government entities such as ODJFS and OH BWC
  • Prepare and submit year-end reports including ACA and EEO filings
  • Distribute year-end tax forms
  • Maintain relationships with software vendors and government entities
  • Coordinate with vendors for effective payroll and benefits administration
  • Stay current on HR laws and regulations, providing guidance to ensure compliance
  • Implement necessary changes in processes and procedures to align with legal requirements
  • Provide clear and concise communication to both hourly and management team members regarding payroll and benefits inquiries
  • Support new restaurant openings with administrative tasks as needed
  • Maintain a general understanding of payroll tax principles and familiarity with payroll tax reports
  • Ensure accurate calculation and submission of payroll taxes
  • Execute a multi-state payroll with accuracy and develop a working knowledge of the various state payroll laws as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptionally friendly, enthusiastic and optimistic about working with a growing organization of hard-working professionals
  • Incredible attention to detail — you value accuracy over speed, but can easily do both
  • Able to gracefully multitask, meet deadlines and always curious how you can contribute more
  • Your written communication is error free and embodies the spirit of our brands
  • You know when you can solve your own problems, and when to ask for help
  • Organization is your middle name
  • Self-directed and agile in getting tasks done, on time
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite; quickly able to learn industry-specific software
  • Experience with payroll and benefits is strongly preferred
  • Restaurant or multi-unit retail payroll background preferred
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality as appropriate

Benefits/Compensation:

  • Work within a singular team of industry leaders
  • Paid Vacation: Three weeks per year
  • Four Week Paid Sabbatical: Every three years, one month of paid leave plus two regular weeks of vacation
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance, including Telehealth
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance, Paid Parental Leave
  • Complimentary lunches when working + $500 quarterly discretionary food account
  • Active Lifestyle Benefit: Up to $250 in annual registration fees for healthy outdoor events

The HR, Payroll and Benefits partner role is 100% onsite and works from our central support office, currently located in Upper Arlington but will be moving to Easton Town Center this fall.
