2025 Osaka World Expo


Sister Cities International (SCI) has been selected by the U.S. Department of State as the recipient of a $2.2M grant to provide support at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan for the USA Pavilion. Sister Cities International is immediately seeking a Youth Ambassador Manager (YM) to lead the recruitment, training, and onsite implementation of 88 Youth Ambassadors to live and work in Japan for three to six months at the 2025 Osaka World Expo (April 13 - October 13, 2025). 


SCI intends to hire the position immediately as a full-time, salaried employee with benefits. The position pays an annual salary of $65,000 through December 31, 2025 (prorated). This position requires work in person at the SCI office in Washington, DC. Japanese language ability is strongly preferred.


The YM will accompany the YA's to Japan and live/work with them during the six-month duration of the 2025 Osaka World Expo. All travel expenses to and from Japan will be covered by SCI, and while in Japan, housing, health insurance, and one meal per day will be covered by the USA Pavilion operator per their contract with the U.S. Department of State. YM responsibilities include:


Recruitment

Design and implementation of the YA recruitment process, including marketing, application process, technical platform, ranking applicants, scheduling interviews and interviewers, and other related tasks.


Training

Working with the Grant Manager and SCI to design content and develop regular virtual trainings

Implementing training for YAs and identifying necessary resources

Coordinating and executing the in-person (both domestic and in Japan) training sessions

Assisting with reporting of expenses and other grant-related needs


Program in Japan

Living in Japan and overseeing all YA-related needs, including but not limited to:

-         Logistics (setup, transit, meals, etc.)

-         Tracking budget and expenses

-         Scheduling (job assignments, shifts, days off, travel for cultural enrichment, other activities, etc.)

-         Regular program monitoring and evaluation

-         Addressing behavior or mental health concerns, and referring them when appropriate

-         Communications with the USA Pavilion and Osaka World Expo staff

-         Regular reporting of activities, needs, and concerns to SCI

-         Regular virtual meetings with SCI team

Assisting with wellness checks

Communicating with State Department and other functions as needed


Post-Expo

Coordinating and documenting follow up, debriefings, impact reports, and lessons learned from Osaka

Any other SCI- or grant-related needs (grant reports, reporting to SCI board/membership, related follow up, continued connection with YA team, thank yous, closure, and other needs)
