Position Overview:
EverWonder Studio is seeking a skilled and experienced SVP, Business and Legal Affairs to join our team. The SVP, Business and Legal Affairs will play a critical role in overseeing the legal aspects of our business, with a focus on business affairs strategy, contract negotiation, and serving as the primary liaison with network/distributor legal departments. This position will report directly to the COO and work closely with the CEO to support the studio’s legal and business affairs needs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Advise EWS executives during negotiations with prospective partners
- Draft development and coproduction agreements for documentary and live television projects.
- Lead negotiations with networks and distributors relating to the sale or license of EWS projects.
- Build institutional precedent around EWS dealings in all aspects of film/TV content creation from development through distribution
- Serve as the primary interface with network legal departments, ensuring compliance and alignment with network requirements.
- Oversee outside production counsel managing the day-to-day forms and contracts on EWS active productions.
- Provide guidance and manage outside corporate counsel on B2B and M&A contracts and negotiations.
- Provide legal advice and support to the COO and CEO on various legal matters affecting the studio.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Manage and mitigate legal risks associated with the studio’s operations.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the relevant state bar.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a legal role in the entertainment industry.
- Proven experience in deal negotiation and business affairs at a studio or production company.
- Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory environment in the media and entertainment industry.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior executives and cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
