The Program Coordinator will support the coordination of programming and operations of statewide refugee health screening programs, mental health services, and refugee health promotion initiatives for refugees in Rhode Island.


Length-(One-Year Contract)


Responsibilities include:


  • Coordinate, promote, and improve Health Screening services, working collaboratively with resettlement agencies, community health centers, refugee clinics, and private health professionals.
  • Coordinate technical assistance and training, with support from the Program Manager, on refugee health screenings, topics related to refugee health, data, and reporting.
  • Connect health professionals to training and TB technical support in partnership with the Department of Health’s TB program. The Health Services Program Assistant will assist with program reports and TB surveillance data management as needed.
  • Support with outreach to other Department of Health programs to expand services to meet the needs and gaps of refugee communities.
  • Support and coordinate the ongoing capacity expansion of mental health resources for refugees.
  • Provide administrative support to the Office when requested by internal and external partners.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Strong skills in MS Office suite including Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe required.
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate with diverse individuals.
  • Strong attention to detail; highly flexible and able to prioritize and keep multiple assignments moving forward.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to work as a team member, with a high level of self-motivation and ability to meet goals and deadlines; and cross-cultural environment.
  • Organized self-starter and ability to identify needs and work independently.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and follow-through ability.


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in administrative tasks, including preparing agendas, taking meetings, scheduling meetings with external and internal partners, and responding to requests from stakeholders.
  • Experience in editing and finalizing programmatic reports, work plans, spreadsheets, resource documents, presentations, and other written materials.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with health and human service organizations, including federal, state, and local governments, non-profits and/or community, ethnic and faith-based organizations, and health clinics.
  • Reliable transportation, valid US driver’s license required.
  • Experience working with refugee resettlement, refugee-serving programs, or organizations preferred.
  • Master’s in Public Health from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Previous role as program assistant or operations lead preferred.
