Reporting to the Deputy Director of Institutional Giving, the position of Grant Specialist is responsible for maintaining grants records, identifying grant prospects, aiding in proposal development, maintaining the grant calendar, and more. The Grant Specialist is instrumental for the success of the Philanthropy team


This position is a full-time, hybrid role based in Oakland, CA.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the organizational grant calendar of grant proposals, reports, deliverable deadlines, and funding opportunities as well as maintain grant records via SharePoint and Raisers Edge
  • Brainstorm grant proposals and reports with the Philanthropy team and conduct research to support the crafting of grant proposals and grant prospects
  • Support the management of the Deputy Director of Institutional Giving’s calendar
  • Draft LOIs, grant reports, and grant proposals with the guidance of the Senior Grant Writer and Deputy Director of Institutional Giving
  • Kick off new grants internally with team members to ensure all relevant staff are oriented and aware of reporting deadlines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Provide day-to-day coordination of the proposal process and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective proposal development
  • Support monitoring timely grant spend down in coordination with the Finance Department
  • Work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders on proposal development
  • Work with the Senior Grant Writer and Deputy Director of Institutional Giving to on submissions
  • Ensure all application materials are submitted for each grant application
  • Monitors grant opportunity announcements from relevant newsletters and online boards and provides daily reporting of new and updated funding opportunities
  • Support the Philanthropy Department in creating a biannual Impact Report
  • Periodically conducting special projects and performing other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational, time management, and follow-through skills
  • Experience with interest search engines and tools including Raisers Edge and Sharepoint
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce a quality grant within time constraints
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly persuasive and effective writing skills with the ability to write a convincing case for funding
  • Previous grant writing experience preferred
  • Ability to research, analyze and synthesize information for assessing grant opportunities, requirement, etc.
  • Ability to understand complex concepts and quickly identify relevant funding opportunities
  • Ability to interpret grant requirements, general business periodicals, professional journals, financial information, technical instructions, or governmental regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs—Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Use of Teams helpful
  • Passionate about protecting the environment, racial justice and equity and meaningful social change


Base salary: $55k-65k DOE + benefits
