Job Description:
We are seeking to hire a Senior Scientist to join our assay development team based at our corporate headquarters located in Mountain View, CA, USA.
The Senior Scientist will be a key member of the assay development team and will work with a cross-functional team of Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and Bioassay Scientists. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for the development of novel benchtop chemistries for point-of-care (POC) molecular diagnostics, including sample preparation, DNA extraction, and nucleic acid amplification technologies. Experience in technology transfer to microfluidic platforms is a plus. This role will emphasize hands-on lab work, and the successful candidate will have a proven track record in designing and optimizing assays for molecular diagnostics.

Education:

Minimum Experience:
- 5+ years of industry experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge in designing novel chemistries for DNA extractionStrong background in designing, developing, and optimizing PCR assaysStrong written and verbal communications skills, ability to explain technical results and platform requirements to cross-functional team of electrical and mechanical engineers
- Experience in using literature resources and bioinformatic analysis of genetic sequences to identify and design optimal primer targets
- Experience developing formulations for lyophilization or air-drying reagents for long-term storage
- Experience working with variety of biological samples (tissue, urine, blood, etc.) and working with microorganisms in a BSL2 environment
- Strong ability to interpret experimental results and independently perform assay optimization
- Motivation to assist other team-members in a fast-paced, startup environment
- Highly motivated team player with a strong desire for continuous learning and broadening knowledge base
Nice-to-haves include:
+ Experience in integration of chemical/biological reagents into high-volume manufacturing
+ Experience operating under a Quality Management System
+ Experience with biosensor systems and/or microarrays
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize assays for sample preparation and DNA extraction for POC platform
- Design and optimize PCR assays for a broad portfolio of POC infectious disease diagnostics
- Work with interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to translate chemistries from benchtop to microfluidic cartridge
- Validation of developed assays through processing of clinical samples and statistical analysis of clinical data sets
- Reporting of results through internal reports and presentations to external stakeholders
