Mountain View, California, United States Lightmatter Full time
Senior Signal Integrity Engineer

Lightmatter is at the forefront of developing chips that facilitate advanced artificial intelligence computing clusters. We are seeking a dedicated engineer or scientist with a collaborative spirit and a strong desire for innovation to contribute to groundbreaking projects, including the creation of the world's first optical computers.

As a Senior Signal Integrity Engineer, you will play a crucial role in steering the development of next-generation products from initial concept through to realization. You will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of silicon, packaging, and systems engineers, focusing on defining the architecture of packages and systems from conception to design optimization, ensuring compliance with signal and power integrity standards. This role presents a unique chance to innovate new architectures by addressing complex interactions across digital, analog, and photonics domains while achieving rigorous signal integrity objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate and execute signal integrity strategies for high-speed connections such as PCIe and SerDes.
  • Conduct signal integrity assessments and simulations to analyze and refine design decisions, including eye diagram evaluations, jitter assessments, and equalization methodologies.
  • Engage with cross-disciplinary teams, including hardware developers, PCB layout specialists, and system architects, to provide signal integrity insights and support throughout the product development process.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware developers to ensure effective impedance matching, termination, and routing techniques for high-speed SerDes connections, taking into account design constraints and manufacturability.
  • Carry out detailed signal integrity measurements and characterizations using laboratory instruments, such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, TDRs, and VNAs, to validate design performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Participate in signal integrity design evaluations, offering technical expertise and recommendations to ensure optimal performance and adherence to design specifications.
  • Assess and address electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) challenges related to SERDES connections, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Document and convey signal integrity analysis findings, design guidelines, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience in signal integrity analysis for high-speed interfaces (112G SerDes, PCIe Gen5).
  • Expertise in utilizing simulation and analysis tools for signal integrity, including Ansys HFSS and Keysight ADS.
  • Strong grasp of transmission line theory, impedance matching, and equalization techniques.
  • Familiarity with signaling protocols for high-speed interfaces, including PCIe and SerDes.
  • Experience with PCB design and layout considerations for high-speed interfaces, including layer stack-up, routing, and via design.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment for signal measurement and characterization, such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, TDRs, and VNAs.
  • Understanding of industry-standard simulation models and methodologies for SERDES analysis, such as IBIS-AMI.
  • Ability to develop scripts to automate simulation processes (Python, JavaScript, Ocean scripts, or Skill).
Preferred Skills
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for signal integrity-related challenges, including eye diagram evaluations, jitter assessments, and equalization methodologies.
  • Experience with DDR and HBM integration.
  • Familiarity with CMOS process technologies and their implications for signal integrity.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Capacity to work independently and manage projects with minimal oversight.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • 401k matching
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Generous Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Paid Family Leave
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
  • Training & Development
  • Flexible, hybrid workplace model
  • Stock Option Plan
We offer competitive compensation. The base salary range for this role, inclusive of all US locations, will be from $175,000 to $210,000 determined based on location, experience, educational background, and market data.
