ROLE STATEMENT

• Socioeconomic Management subject matter expert supporting all organizations (i.e. Product Solutions, Upstream Oil and Gas, Low Carbon Solutions).

• Go-to resource for identifying socioeconomic risks with the potential to impact project schedule or budget, or have reputational or economic impact, and developing/implementing fit-for-purpose strategies and plans to mitigate these risks. Risks can be associated with but are not limited to Human Rights; Community Engagement and Grievance Management; Indigenous Peoples; Cultural Heritage; Community Health, Safety and Security; Local Economic Development / Local Content as well as Land Use, Resettlement and Livelihood Restoration issues.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support Corporate Sustainability Focus Area Manager responsible for managing socioeconomic impacts and respecting human rights; focus area efforts include engaging on areas of risk or opportunity for the corporation and developing corporate positions and global strategies across business lines and locations • Support key focus area objectives through research, analysis, development and implementation of strategies • Prepare and advise early project activities on strategies, plans and materials, including efforts to engage host-country industry and regulatory agencies, and external financing institutions regarding the development of socioeconomic and human rights requirements • Support tactical implementation of corporate position and business strategies • Support development of: communications on internal / external issues, stakeholder positions and alignment of business lines, functions, MC on evolving strategic risks, opportunities and actions, support decisions


Near-term Work deliverables


Competitive analysis (Human Rights Due Diligence)

- Review and analyze value chain requests related to Human Rights and due diligence processes

- Review EM responses and effectiveness

- Map trends, emerging areas and identify opportunities or necessary enhancements

- Review status of implementation of human rights screening/assessment tools and outcomes

- Prepare plan to implement enhancements to processes or response


Grievance Management System Survey

• Gather information on Grievance process used across Global Affiliates / Facilities • Review for alignment with expected approach and effectiveness • Identify enhancements in awareness and implementation • Evaluate and propose Global KPIs in this area including mechanisms to collect data


Other Activities

• SeM Competitor Analysis

• Support in the development of key Socioeconomic Management tools for incorporation into the online Toolkit • Assist in the development and provision of Socioeconomic Management training for practitioners as well as functional, organizational and project personnel



KEY INTERFACES

• Interface with relevant internal groups, including SSHE, Security, P&GA, HR, Project Teams, Venture Teams, Operations Teams, Law, Controllers, Procurement, etc.

• Interface with relevant external groups / stakeholders, including communities, co-venture partners, contractors, lenders and their consultants, local government agencies, NGOs, etc.
